We silly people are mostly run on fear, lust and hatred with a few charming moments of decency, love, and unity. All this 2012 propaganda and smoldering hysteria is another example of our fear, lust and hatred trumping our responsibility to live a life worth living.
Indeed the Mayans were an ingenious people who lived in that tension of intellectual curiosity of discovering truth (both small “t” and capital “T”) and self absorbed religious ridiculousness that is the scourge of all cultures (religion is one thing, contriving and practicing religion for our own means is another). The Mayan calender was actually a marriage of a religious calender and calender similar to the one we know today. Here is a lovely example of the iconographic Mayan Solar Calender. It is a maze a symbols that represent a theory of the activity of the Sun.
The Internet is replete with information on this topic. There is much talk about December 21, 2012 as the end of the World as it may coincide with galactic alignment, a spike in solar radiation, and a shift in solar and earth magnetic poles, among many other catastrophes.
But ask yourself this: “When do I stop living in fear and just start living?”
It has been said that the opposite of fear is love. Maybe that opposite of fear is also life – like really living. Nevertheless, life is for the living. Be responsible to that. Use this moment to make a commitment to really live. Use this time as an opportunity to connect with people and offer a perspective for life. Be a prophet for life not a prophet of doom.
